Link building sites are vital for your SEO campaign. Search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and others send software robots to index sites and cache pages for search engine results. When these robots find a link to your site on another web page on the internet, that link is recorded, and added to your site’s own popularity index.

These popularity indexes are known as “Page Rank” values, and generally number from one to ten. The top sites such as Wikipedia or Source Forge have earned a page rank value of seven, for example, based on the large number of users and external links to the site from other pages. So if you need to increase your site’s page rank value, then link building sites are a good idea.

Some good example of Web 2.0 link building sites are Digg and De.lic.ious. These two sites allow you to share your links to specific pages, or bookmarks. Another good set of link building sites are “Top Sites” and “Hot Sites”. These are usually found as special sections on many web sites, that allow you to add your links directly to their pages through a form or software interface. The web site dmoz.org is a good example of a link building site that accepts links manually. This makes for more of an application process to get accepted to the dmoz.org site. You can also spread links in blogs and forums, or check out some of the sites dedicated only to link exchange, after filtering out the spam sites.
