What is a niche business? A niche business is one that caters to the common needs and interests of a focused group of people. For instance, people who play golf forms a niche market and people who are golf instructors form an even tighter and smaller niche.

The advantage of going niche is that you can become a specialist in that chosen market. Instead of knowing a bit of everything, you concentrate your efforts on the one area.

Becoming an expert in your niche does not happen overnight. It takes time, skills, dedication and money to build up your knowledge.

Here are 7 great ways to become an expert in your niche business:

1. First and foremost, you must have a strong interest when selecting your niche. If you are going to spend a lot of time researching on this area, a strong interest will help sustain your efforts and keep you going.

2. Read aplenty and stay current! Surf the internet for industry news and related fields to your niche. Go to the bookstores and the library. Subscribe to newsletters or ezines of your competitors.

3. Attend workshops and learn from the super experts. Learn also in related topics so that you can expand on your knowledge base.

4. Test out tools, resources, software or just about anything that can be used for your particular niche. For instance, if you are a florist selling exotic flowers, knowing what is the best way to take care of the delicate blooms will help make you an expert!

5. Hang out in forums where your target market is likely to be. This is an excellent way to get to know what are the common problems and obstacles faced by your prospects. Make sure that you find out the answers or solutions to these problems so that you can…

Any given market in its entirety is simply too vast for any business but the largest of corporations to properly undertake. Therefore, the most lucrative strategy for smaller businesses is dividing the potential demand into different manageable market niches, from which you can offer specialized goods and services, for attracting a specific group of those prospective clients.

There are, without a doubt, some types of products or services for which you are particularly suited to providing. Have a good look at the market, and you will be certain to find some ideal opportunities.

So what does finding a niche really mean for your small business? Identifying your small business niche means that you are discovering a distinct corner in the market, for your business to provide to a certain specific customer interest - and then capitalizing on it. It means that you find that one special spot within the business world where you stand out the most.

Now that you know exactly what a niche is, there are certain things that you need to find out about yourself and your small business before you take a look at that ever-reaching industry you’re looking to tackle.

Ask yourself:

* What is my company good at/what am I good at? When you answer this question, have a good look at your skills, and those within your current business. Find the areas in which your strongest skills lie, and list them. You may be surprised at what you discover. Performing this type of inventory really brings out the strengths as well as the potential of your business.

* What do I enjoy doing? What are the things that you love to do the most both in a business scenario, or even when there is not a profit available. The best place to start looking, is at your…

If you don’t find a niche market for the product or service you offer, you will have a difficult time being successful. Most newcomers who wish to do business on the Internet often market to everyone they can find with the expectation that everyone will do business with them. This is the same as throwing mud against the wall and hoping some of it will stick. They have not yet found their niche market.
What is niche marketing?
A niche market is composed of individuals and businesses that have similar interests and needs, which can be readily identified and that can be easily targeted and reached.
Finding a niche for your business means finding a great product or service for a highly targeted audience.
Here’s the process to find your niche business
1. Find a niche product or service you are passionate about. This will greatly improve your chances of being successful. Why? Because it’s the only way you’re going to be able to devote the kind of time and effort to create a meaningful web site, build up the right traffic, generate worthwhile income, and enjoy what you’re doing.
2. Choose a niche product you are knowledgeable about. Reflect on what skills, hobbies or products you know the most about. If you don’t have the knowledge yet, then choose a niche product that you would love to promote, and then spend the necessary time to research it, so you can eventually become an expert in your marketing field.
3. Define your niche market - do the necessary research to see if there is a market for your niche product. To create a profitable business for your niche product, you need to ask yourself these questions:
a) Is there sufficient demand for it? - If you choose a field that is too broad it may be…

Finding a niche market is simple. Finding a PROFITABLE niche market is a little harder, but it’s still easy once you know what you are doing. Otherwise, you will end up like 90% of the other niche marketers out there who spend weeks or months on a niche market only to find out there is no money to be made there.
Luckily I will reveal the secrets to finding a profitable niche market later in this article.

There are literally hundreds of ways to find niche markets. You can spend your time searching for popular keywords using tools such as Wordtracker, or you can walk around your local bookstore looking for common book topics. I’ve tried both of
these options when I first got started in niche marketing, and let me tell you, I lost the most money when I picked a topic that way. Why? Well, it’s simple. Just because people are searching for a keyword or phrase online or because there are a bunch of hard copy books on a topic, it doesn’t mean those markets will buy your products online.

Have you ever heard the advice “Target a niche market you are passionate about”? What a bunch of garbage that piece of advice is. It doesn’t matter how passionate you are about a topic, if
people in that market don’t buy products online, YOU WILL FAIL and fail miserably.

Here are 2 ways to find cash generating, starving niche markets that you have probably never seen before…

1) Ebay - the unlimited supply of niches. Everyone has heard of ebay, but few people think to go to ebay to find a niche
market. You would have to be crazy NOT to use ebay to find a market. This is one of the only places you can go and see exactly
what people are buying…

It is important to realize that your choice of a niche can have a significant influence on the success or failure of your new blog.

Deciding on a theme can be a daunting task. What exactly are you going to write about? Your niche needs to be a popular topic that many people are interested in.

If you are going to blog about yourself, then you better have a very interesting life, or you will have difficulty keeping your readers coming back for more. You should choose a topic that will make it comparatively easy to grow your readership and build a strong following.

Since many bloggers write about their favorite subjects, it’s not a bad idea to start brainstorming by writing down a list of your hobbies, interests, and any areas of professional expertise. Now try to determine a niche you can target within one of those areas.

Should you blog about automobiles in general, or the latest sports cars? If you choose too narrow a theme then you may struggle to come up with regular, fresh content. And if you choose a topic that’s too general your readers may be confused by a jumble of seemingly unrelated posts.

You might consider niches within the following general topic areas which have proven to be popular for blogging:

  • Automobiles
  • Computers & Information Technology
  • Digital Cameras
  • Gadgets
  • Music
  • News
  • Photography
  • Politics
  • Shopping

If you plan to use Pay-Per-Click advertising to get traffic to your blog, then remember also that the hottest topics might have the highest pay-per-click fees.

You can sometimes get great niche ideas by browsing at Blog directories and sites like Google Blog Search: http://blogsearch.google.com

Since it is so time-consuming trying to com up with the ‘perfect’ niche idea, many bloggers and webmasters have turned to specialized niche discovery tools. I particularly recommend Online Gold Finder and NicheTopics.

With Online Gold Finder you can uncover…
